With his wife in labor, father-to-be Thomas (Malik Zidi) speeds to the hospital and, in the process, accidentally kills a young man on the road. The death sets into motion a series of events that will change everyone's lives forever, including the young man's mother, Marie-France (played by four-time César award-winning Nathalie Baye), who cannot recover from the trauma. Nine years later, Marie-France takes a job as Thomas’s assistant, without his knowing about her connection to his past. Her maternal rage has tragic consequences as she insinuates herself into Thomas's life, work and family. THE ASSISTANT is a "suspenseful!" (Variety) drama-thriller in the vein of classic Hitchcock.

"Takes plenty of notes from Hitchcock." —The Hollywood Reporter

"Recommended! Off-kilter revenge thriller—[watch] the talented Baye carefully spin her treacherous plans around her unsuspecting targets with quiet but steely intensity."—Video Librarian

"Suspenseful!" Variety

"Baye is an inspired choice... She is able to switch in a heartbeat from coquettishly flirtatious to iciliy menacing." —French Cinema Review
